Dogs: Well behaved dogs on short leads (less than 2m). Must be under close control at all times. Dog waste must be bagged and binned.
Child friendly: Over 14’s only. Under 18’s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Description of the walk: A circular walk exploring woodland and parkland in the Kirkcaldy area. We will start from Beveridge Park taking in the Wizard Walk before heading down to the river. We then follow an unsurfaced woodland path around the head of Raith Lake, followed by a core path through Raith Estate woodlands to Torbain. After a section of field path we have a short road section (500m) to reach Rabbit Braes Community Park. There will be the (optional) opportunity to visit an Ordnance Survey triangulation pillar at the high point of Kirkcaldy before returning to Rabbit Braes. After the park there is more grassland and a very short (less than 100m) road walk before entering Longbraes Plantation woodland. We then follow an unsurfaced woodland path down to Oriel Road where we cross over to join a further woodland path on the opposite side. We re-join the road close to the entrance to Beveridge Park to return to our start point.
What to bring: Clothing appropriate for outdoor activity and expected weather conditions (a waterproof jacket may be needed). Bring a packed lunch and water/juice/hot drink. Sunscreen if it is a sunny day. Underfoot conditions may be muddy in a few places so wear appropriate footwear. The route can be walked in trainers if it has been dry but lightweight walking boots would be better if there has been recent rain.
Group safety: The walk will be led by members of our group. Please ensure that you keep with the group and follow directions from the leaders. If you wish to leave the walk at any point please ensure that you advise a leader.
Health conditions: If you have any health conditions that could affect you whilst walking, please ensure that someone else in the group is aware of this. If you are walking with friends/family let them know otherwise please advise a group leader. If you feel unwell during the walk you should advise one of the leaders.
Leave no trace: Please respect the countryside and leave it as you find it. Take all rubbish away with you including bio-degradables such as apple cores, orange peel etc.
Scottish Outdoor Access Code: Please respect the interests of others, care for the environment, and take responsibility for your own actions.
Walk route: The walk leaders reserve the right to amend the walk in the event of inclement weather, other environmental factors or the ability of the group to cope with the walk.
Participation statement: You join the walk at your own risk. It is your responsibility to ensure you can safely participate in the walk. It is your responsibility to be appropriately clothed/equipped for the expected weather. Fife Out and About holds third party liability insurance through Mountaineering Scotland..
Data protection: In the event of an incident on the walk we may pass on your details to the emergency / health services. We will not pass on your information to anyone else without your permission. When no longer required your information will be deleted/destroyed.
