Walk Grades
Walks are graded to help you choose ones appropriate for you.
Please note that grades are only a guide as the difficulty of a walk is often dependent upon the weather and underfoot conditions that are experienced.

Day Walks
The following grading system is used for daytime walks with the group. It does not apply to the shorter evening walks.
Bronze:
Up to 300m of ascent (no more than 150m in one continuous section).
Mostly on paths and tracks but could be muddy/slippy and uneven.
Silver:
Up to 600m of ascent.
May include some off path walking on easyish terrain (eg grassy hillsides).
Paths may be rough and include short steep sections.
Walking boots and some hill walking kit required.
Gold:
Up to 1000m of ascent.
Rough hill paths and off path walking on rough hillsides.
May include a few rocky sections.
May be steep.
"Escape" options may be limited.
Full hill walking kit required.
Gold plus:
Over 1000m of ascent.
May include scrambling.
Likely to be a long day.

Green:
Up to 100m of ascent

If dry, trainers are suitable
Amber
Up to 200m of ascent and likely to be undulating
Paths may be uneven and unsurfaced, may be wet and muddy in places
Lightweight walking boots would be beneficial unless it is very dry.
Red
Over 200m of ascent
Paths may be rough with some steep sections.
Some off path walking may be required
Walking boots required
Green:
Up to 100m of ascent
